If you follow me on social media, then you know that I was chosen as one of 10 individuals to represent Dallas Athletes Racing as a 2015 ambassador. This is the first time I've been a brand ambassador and it feels so perfect that it's with the organization in which I competed in my first triathlon (Monster Sprint Tri 2013).
I went totally alone. Matthew wasn't able to cheer me on because we were having serious health issues with our new greyhound and someone had to stay with Gordon. I was so nervous. I had no idea how to set up transition or where to the timing chips but the organizers at Dallas Athletes Racing events are so awesome. They answered all of my questions and helped me not feel so alone (they announced that about half of the participants were first time triathletes).
The race was crazy fun and well orchestrated. I was officially addicted to triathlon. Since that race, I've done 4 additional racing through Dallas Athletes Racing and cannot wait to compete in even more this year! The brand prides itself in being athletic, competitive, and a party. In my opinion, that's exactly what a race should be, a celebration of the work that you've put in.
A couple weeks ago, I got to meet Tom and Dan who head Dallas Athletes Racing. I asked them if they would be up for a Q&A. Here are Tom's responses:
How did Dallas Athletes Racing come to be?
STARTED 14 YEARS AGO WITH A KIDS TRIATHLON IN COPPELL, TX
What’s the difference between Dallas Athletes Racing and Dallas Athletes?
DA RACING IS AN EVENT COMPANY. DA, THE CLUB, IS A TRAINING GROUP
So you guys have known each other for a long time, when and how did you guys meet?
DAN AND I BECAME FRIENDS IN SECOND GRADE, 1966.
What’s one word you would use to describe each other?
BONDED.
What are each of your roles at DAR?
DAN HANDLES THE LOGISTICS & I HANDLE MARKETING AND CHARITY RELATIONS.
So those are your “duties” but what do you each bring to DAR?
WE BRING FUN AND ENERGY ALONG WITH A LOVE OF ENTREPRENEURSHIP!
DAR events are crazy fun. How do you come up with themes for the races?
I AM MENTALLY ILL SO IDEAS HAPPEN NON-STOP!
Where does the money raised go?
WE'VE RAISED OVER $500,000 FOR VARIOUS CHARITIES. CURRENTLY HAVE 9 NICE CHARITY PARTNERS.
What was your goal starting Dallas Athletes Racing?
TO KICK ASS!
What goals do you have for the future?
TO CONTINUE TO KICK ASS! ALSO, I AM COMBINING MY EFFORTS WITH DA RACING INTO CREATING MY OWN CHARITY CALLED, NOBODY'S NORMAL.
I am totally jazzed to be representing such an amazing organization who promotes athletic and community growth all while partying it up!
