However, taking on three sports AND all of the various equipment needed can be equally as overwhelming. I find that most beginner triathletes (myself included) try to get as much gear as possible right from the get go. Well, that's really not a must. You will eventually have all of the gear you'll ever want but, you will acquire it slowly.
Yet, there are some essentials that you really need when you first start this crazy world of triathlon and I have provided a must have list below:
Swimming:
Swimming:
Swim cap
Biking:
Cycling shoes that clip into the pedals
Cycling socks
A computer that tracks your speed/distance
Saddle bag with extra tire tube, tools, etc
Water bottle cages and bottles
Sunglasses
Cycling shorts and tops (several sets)
Running:
An app that tracks your distance and speed (like Map My Run)
Running short and tops (several sets)
And third tier gear would be:
Swimming:
Kick board- for training
Pull bouy- for training
Biking:
Indoor trainer- for training
Bento box for nutrition storage on bike
Leg warmers/arm warmers- for when it starts to get cold
Bike rack for the car
Running:
Hydration belt- for training
Shell jacket- for when it gets cold
Tights- for when it gets cold
Fancy running socks
Visor/hat
It's pretty comical how much gear is available out there. And I especially notice all that I own in the winter since there is so much bundling up to stay warm. Matthew and I often joke that this video perfectly depicts how we feel on cold training days.
